Advice for Pregnant People with Allergies

Pregnancy is one very specific time when a woman wants to make sure that she is in the best of health. Allergies during pregnancy can, therefore, be a significant cause of worry. If you are about to become pregnant or are already expecting, then it’s a good idea to inform yourself of what you can do to ensure that the rest of your pregnancy goes as smoothly as possible.

Be Aware Of Medication
There is a whole list of substances that you will be advised not to consume during pregnancy. Allergies and Pregnancy can be difficult in this sense because some of the allergy medications don’t combine well with it. One of the best things to do is see your doctor or allergy specialist and ask for all of the necessary information. Looking up information online is also a possibility, but it is important to get information from a specialist first and foremost.

Prevent Is Key
While it is not always possible to avoid allergens, it’s a good idea to be conscious of the things that set you off and try to keep away from them. For example, if foods are one of your main triggers then you will probably want to keep away from them. The same can be said for things like grass or pollen: although realistically there may be times when you come into contact with these allergens (particularly if you are pregnant during the summer.

If you do feel the need to use anti-allergy medication during your pregnancy, then always make sure to do this under the guidance of your doctor. Some medications (such as Benadryl) appear to be safe during the nine months, however even then most experts would recommend that you try to avoid them if possible. And to reiterate: always ask an expert first.
