There are
thousands of papers and statistics which confirm that there are over 100
million people who suffer from some kind of allergy annually. This is a very
large number, but it is often not taken seriously because they are usually
controlled by medications, and are rarely fatal.
Scientists
and researchers worldwide have confirmed that the rise in allergy patients has
not come down, but is steadily increasing in Europe and worldwide. A centuries
old affliction, hay fever is due to grass allergy, but narrowing it down to the
kind of grass species is next to impossible. Currently, immunologists and
allergists have sensitive and sophisticated equipment to help them narrow down
the cause of these allergies and come up with a permanent solution.
With
hundreds of years of research at their disposal, allergists and research
scientists are doing their best to shortlist the allergen causing these
allergies. Once the cause is identified, the treatment consists of
antihistamines or similar medications. Allergies which are most common in
Europe is the grass pollen allergy which manifests as runny nose, sneezing,
itchy eyes, and other symptoms.
Grass pollen allergy occurs during spring and
summer and is caused when grasses release pollen; an individual suffering from
this allergy could develop symptoms like itchy eyes, runny nose, etc. However, there
have been cases of people having severe breathing problems and life-threatening
conditions. Best treatment is immunotherapy which brings relief; others may use
antihistamine nasal sprays and/or allergy tablets for quick relief from this
perennial problem.
