How to Manage and Treat Symptoms of Grass and Pollen Allergies

Allergies affect millions of people worldwide on annually, and even though a lot of research and data is collected by various international institutions and companies, a cure has not been found.

The main issue with allergies is to shortlist the allergen causing the problem; once this is confirmed, then the next step is to treat that problem with special antihistamines or other medications. The most common allergies affecting people in America and Europe is grass pollen allergy which manifests as itchy/red eyes, runny nose, and sneezing. Researchers and healthcare workers are collecting data from various worldwide research institutions to study and find a permanent cure.

Ancient documents dating back to the 18th and 19th century reveal that people were aware that problem like hay fever was caused by grass allergy. But there are thousands of grass species around the world and narrowing out the exact pollen causing the problem was impossible. Today, doctors and immunologists have new, sensitive, and sophisticated equipment and modern technologies at their disposal to help them find a permanent solution to this problem.

Doctors instruct patients to avoid flowers/grass during spring and summer, which is when pollen concentration is usually at its highest. Usual symptoms of pollen allergy could be shortness of breath, sneezing, itchy red and watering eyes. In these cases, patients may have no other option but to resort to immunotherapy; the regular standbys of allergy tablets and antihistamine nasal sprays will bring some relief from this problem to patients with less life-threatening symptoms.
